Lorraine Adams, 84, of Millbury, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013, after a long illness. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Deus and Alvina Adams and lived many years in Auburn before moving to Millbury.
She was predeceased by two sons, Gerald R. Gregoire and Gary P. Gregoire. She leaves and will be sadly missed by her daughter, Donna M. Gregoire with whom she lived for many years; her son, E. Charles Tidman III of Holden; her grandchildren, Eric C. Tidman and Kelsie L. Tidman of Holden; and her Shih Tzu, friend and constant companion, Buddy. In 2010, she lost her beloved daughter-in-law, Cheryl A. Tidman.
Lorraine attended the former St. Peter’s High School and was a homemaker for many years while her children were young. She then decided, in her late thirties, to go back to school and pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from the former David Hale Fanning Trade School of Nursing and began her career at the former Worcester City Hospital, where she worked first in a rotation on the wards and later as an orthopedic nurse in the fracture room. When City Hospital closed, she went to work at the Fallon Clinic as an orthopedic nurse until she retired. Even in retirement, she always provided home care for ill or injured family and friends or their pets. She welcomed everyone into her home to enjoy her cooking, her many gardens and her pool. She most enjoyed time surrounded by her family. She was a proud mother and grandmother who reveled in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and who was thrilled to have lived long enough to see her grandchildren graduate from college and begin their careers.
Lorraine and her family were grateful for the compassionate care of Dr. Robert E. Maloney, Theresa and the entire staff at Chadwick Medical as well as the VNA Care Network of Worcester and the Auburn VNA Health Network. They also extend their loving gratitude to Maureen Sargent for her kindness, warmth, friendship and baked treats.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 29, from 6-8 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 30, at 10 a.m. Following the funeral service, Lorraine will be laid to rest in the Notre Dame Mausoleum in Worcester. Contributions in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the Cheryl A. Tidman Memorial Book Fund, c/o Dawson School PTA, 155 Salisbury Street, Holden, MA 01520 to support her daughter-in-law’s tradition of giving fun reading books to second grade students.
