HOLDEN/FALL RIVER – Loretta (Zmuda) Dec, formerly of Fall River and Colony Retirement Homes in Holden passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 97 years of age at the Lutheran Skilled Care Center in Worcester. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Matthew “Decky” Dec who died 5 years ago after a marriage of 70 years. She is survived by her only son, Robert Dec and his wife, Suzanne Dec of Holden, two loving granddaughters, Melanie Dec and Stefanie Engelhardt, both of Brooklyn, NY as well as many nieces and nephews.
Loretta was a communicant of St. George Church in Worcester and Sacred Heart Church in Fall River. She attended B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River. With her husband Matthew she established and ran Loretta’s Variety in Fall River at the corner of Franklin and High Streets for 31 years. She was also a talented seamstress who made many of her own clothes and matching outfits for her granddaughters and their American Girl dolls and a great cook, particularly of Polish foods. She was an active member of the Polish Home in Fall River for many years. In her later years she became an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Loretta's family from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 6 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.at St. George Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester.
