BETHESDA, MD – Lolita (Wulfson) Baker, 92, died on Tuesday, December 12 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD.
Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1931, Lolita was the daughter of Walter and Edith Wulfson, and with her family, fled Nazi Germany in December, 1938 on the S.S. Manhattan.
Lolita earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Mathematics, graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. She worked for many years as a high school teacher and subsequently at Rhode Island School of Design. She lived and raised her family in Worcester, MA and subsequently lived in Boynton Beach, FL.
Lolita was active in many philanthropic efforts including resettlement of Jewish Refugees from the former USSR. In addition, Lolita was an avid bridge player, loved to play tennis and enjoyed baking for her family and friends.
Lolita will be lovingly missed and remembered by her children, Walter Baker and his wife Agnes, of New York City; Miriam Karlin and her husband Stanley, of Wells, ME; Judy Baker and her husband Peter Selfridge, of Bethesda, MD; David Baker and his wife Gwen, of Westport, CT; her cherished grandchildren Eve Karlin, Jamie(Brian) Lewis, Lauren Baker, Logan(Joseph) Caputo, Isabel Baker(Thomas Arce), Gabrielle Baker(Daniel Greenstone), Katie Baker, Sarah Selfridge, Andrew Selfridge; and her 4 cherished great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Stanley S. Baker in 2005.
Family and friends will gather for a Graveside Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 15th at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road, Worcester. Memorial Observances will be announced. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
