HOLDEN – Virginia “Lois” (Loughnane) Ryan, 84, formerly of Fairchild Drive, died on Thursday, July 22, 2010 in the Quaboag on the Common in West Brookfield.
Her husband of 49 years, James D. Ryan, died in November of 2002. She is survived by her children, Kevin D. Ryan of Nantucket, Jamie Ryan of Sudbury, Karen Leupold of West Brookfield and Kathy Culberson of Key West, FL; a brother, Jack Loughnane of West Barnstable; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Lois was born in Worcester, the daughter of Bernard A. and Marie (LaMothe) Loughnane, and lived in Holden for 54 years before moving to West Brookfield three years ago. She attended school in Worcester and as a young woman, worked at Donway’s Bridal Shop. For years she and her husband owned and operated Ryan’s Bake Shop in Worcester and later she worked at Mayo’s Pharmacy in Holden. She enjoyed skiing and loved golf where she was a member of Holden Hills Country Club for many years. She was a member of St. George’s Church in Worcester.
A private graveside service will be held at Grove Cemetery, Holden. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Quaboag On The Common Residents Activity Fund, c/o Ruth Mogavro, 41 East Main Street, West Brookfield, MA 01585. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
