She was predeceased by her older siblings, Harvey Rubin and Thelma Kollman.Lois was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Massachusetts in 1950. After college, she taught in the Shrewsbury Public School system. She met and married Al in 1953. She was able to pursue her lifelong desire to help people by returning to work as the supervisor of volunteers at the Worcester office of the Massachusetts Association of the Blind. She worked there, eventually becoming director, until her retirement in 1989. She continued working for the visually impaired at the Audio Journal. She was a former President and founding member of Worcester Institute for Senior Education (WISE). She continued to volunteer for many local agencies up until a few years ago.Lois was a voracious reader and lover of theater. She and Al were long time subscribers to Music Worcester and felt so privileged to witness many of the world's great symphonies and musicians at amazing Mechanics Hall. She loved to travel with her husband, taking many trips to Europe and Israel. While she took great pleasure in helping people, her greatest joy was watching her children and especially her grandchildren in their growth and achievements. We were all fortunate that she was able to share in the joy of her grandson Jonathan's Bar Mitzvah this past October. The family would like to thank the following organizations for their compassionate care and assistance in helping our Mom during the last several years; The Willows of Worcester, Whitney Place and Beaumont Rehabilitation of Westborough, and St. Vincent's Hospital, of Worcester. The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 29, at Temple Emanuel - Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester.
