Lois M. Boyce

d. July 5, 2018

HOLDEN – Lois M. (Milligan) Boyce passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Holden, the daughter of Harry G. and Laura Bell (Rowe) Milligan and returned to Holden after marrying.

Her husband of 36 years, John H. Boyce Jr., passed away in 1989. She leaves her son, Jay of Barre; her daughter, Judith of San Diego, CA; and her granddaughter, Cheyenne of Florida.

Lois graduated from Oxford High School and earned a nursing degree from New England Deaconess Hospital. She was a Register Nurse working at Holden District Hospital for 28 years, 20 of which she served as supervisor, before retiring in 2010. In 1976 she joined the first cohort of the Nurses’ Health Study. In 2004 Lois received the YWCA Women of Distinction Award for outstanding contributions to nursing.

She was a member of Chaffin Congregational Church and loved the fellowship it offered. She especially valued sharing time with her family and caring for her beloved dogs. Lois was an avid square dancer and looked forward to picking blueberries every July on Mount Wachusett.

A gathering of friends will meet for Lois on Friday, August 10th at 10 a.m.at Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. A private committal service was held at Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Chaffin Congregational Church or, as Lois would have wanted, just hug your dog. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
