WORCESTER – Lois J. (Johnson) Bergstrom, 92, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 31, 2017 at The Willows of Westborough with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 22, 1925 in Brockton, the daughter of the late Harry A.C. and Ragnhild “Ruggie” T. (Polson) Johnson, and was raised between Wessagussett, MA, and Miami, Florida. Lois graduated from high school in Miami and attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. While attending college, Lois met and fell in love with a handsome young man by the name of Charles Bergstrom. They married on August 5, 1945 in Miami Florida and proceeded with their life of parish ministry and raising their three children. In 1963, Lois’ husband, The Rev. Dr. Charles V. Bergstrom, accepted the position as Senior Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester. They resided in Worcester for the following 14 years before moving to Washington, DC. They retired to South Yarmouth in 1988 where they lived until moving to The Willows in 2002. Her life was centered on her deep faith and love of her family. She was an active member and volunteer at the churches her husband was assigned to throughout the years including St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, Bethesda Lutheran Church in Springfield and Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester. She sang in their choirs, taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Ladies Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lois loved to entertain and looked forward to creating a special meal for her family or close friends. You never needed an invitation to visit with Lois in her home - she embraced everyone with open arms. She saw the good in everything and encouraged others to do the same. She will be remembered for thoughtfulness, compassion and kind nature. Lois’ family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at The Willows and the “five angels” who provided compassionate care in her final years.
