STERLING - Lois J. (Hall) Burns, 79, of Boutelle Rd, died peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester, after a brief illness. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Margaret C. (Williams) and Stanley S. Hall.
Lois was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Robert S. Burns, Jr. She is survived by her son, Robert F. Burns III of Sterling; her daughter, Susan C. Van Abs and her husband, Andrew of Canaan, NH; her sister, Carol Nordstrom and her husband, Carl of Charlton; her brother, Richard Hall and his wife, Stella of Londonderry, NH; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved dog, Cole.
Lois was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester, the Henry Heywood School of Nursing in Gardner and received both her Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Anna Maria College in Paxton. She was a registered nurse for over 46 years at Hahnemann Hospital and the University of Massachusetts Memorial Campus, holding positions as a staff nurse, nursing supervisor, IV nurse therapist, and a nursing administrator. Her life was centered on faith and family. She was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church and served in many roles including president of its’ council, head of the ushers and altar guild as well as founded the Parish Nurse Ministry. Lois was also a member of the Lutheran Social Services. She had many hobbies, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 86 Murray Avenue, Worcester, with the Rev. Ann Burgdorf officiating.
