Lois R. (Baylin) Black

Biography
WESTBOROUGH – Lois R. (Baylin) Black, 95, died on Monday, July 27, 2015 in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

She leaves two daughters, Laurie, wife of Marvin S. Silver and Julia, wife of Dennis Geran both of Westborough; a sister, Reisa, wife of Michael Temkin of New Jersey; four grandchildren, Jessica, and her husband Ryan Straw of Charlestown, A.J. Silver and his wife, Emily of Charlestown, Emily Silver and her husband, Todd Heller of Boston, and Alyssa Geran of Brighton; and a great-granddaughter, Grace Silver. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Ellen who died many years ago.

She was born in Poland and was raised by her adoptive parents, Harry and Frances Baylin, who were actually her aunt and uncle and had lived in Ayer for many years before moving to Westborough seven years ago.

She lived in an orphanage as her parents died at a very young age, escaping on the last passenger ship out of Poland before the Nazi’s invaded in 1939.

After high school and as an adult she worked at her family business, Baylin’s on Main Street in Fitchburg and she was very proud of this.

She was fluent in several languages. She worked at the U.S.O. teaching English to the wives and children of the servicemen who were stationed at Fort Devens, and she prepared them to become United States citizens.

She was a member of Congregation B’Nai Shalom of Westborough and was a life member of Hadassah.

She loved to help others and she loved learning. She was proud of her heritage.

GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:30AM, TODAY WEDNESDAY, JULY 29TH, IN AGUDAS ACHIM CEMETERY ON ROLLSTONE ROAD, FITCHBURG UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Yiddish Book Center, the Harry and Jeanette Weisberg Building, 1021 West Street, Amherst, MA 01002.
