S Mary L. (O'Hara) Williams

WORCESTER – Mary L. (O'Hara) Williams, 80, of Leslie Road, died on Saturday, September 11, 2010 in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester.

She was born in Boston, the daughter of Charles M. and Mary C. (Faughnan) O'Hara, and has lived in Worcester most of her life. She was the wife of the late John E. Williams who died in 1977, after 21 years of marriage. Mary graduated from Commerce High School and attended Worcester State College and the Boston University School of Journalism.

Mary worked for 35 years in the insurance claims field, retiring as a Casualty Claims Supervisor from the Hanover Insurance Company in Worcester. She was a past president of the Massachusetts Assoc. of Insurance Women and past vice president of the Region I, National Association of Insurance Women. In 1975, she received the Massachusetts Insurance Women of the Year award.

She was an active member of St. George's Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member and past president of its women's guild and an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy. She was also a member, treasurer and board member of the Central Council of St. Vincent de Paul and received their Top Hat award in 2006. Mary and her husband produced and directed many musicals and variety shows in Worcester and Worcester County. She enjoyed travelling, golfing, swimming and especially her cats, Megan & Mandy.

Mary leaves a step-daughter, Catherine Wilcox of Woburn; a step-granddaughter, Susan Morton and her husband Richard of Woburn; five great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Mary will be held on Thursday, September 16th, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. George's Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Council of St. Vincent de Paul, 507 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA 01603.
