S Marguerite L. (Ludden) Hosmer

HOLDEN – Marguerite L. Hosmer, 97, formerly of Holden, died on Sunday, April 20, 2008 in the Ludington Woods Living Center, Ludington, Michigan.

Her husband of 36 years, John A. Hosmer, died in 1971. She leaves her son, Philip C. Hosmer and his wife Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Gail M. Gerbers of Ludington, Michigan and Judith A. Garrett and her husband Howard of Montgomery, New York; 8 grandchildren, Rebecca McDaniel, Robert Hagen, Rochelle Richards, Gregory and Matthew Gerbers, Philip, David and William Hess; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and 19 nephews and nieces. Her brother, Sherman S. Ludden and her sister, Dorothy E. Robbie, predeceased her. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Frank Hebert and Emma Estelle (Clifford) Ludden, and lived in Worcester until 1974. Previously she lived on Old Salisbury Street in Holden until 1992, Colorado Springs until 2003 before moving to Ludington. She was a graduate of Commerce High School in 1929.

Marguerite worked for Worcester County National Bank, State Mutual Life Assurance Co. and Simplex Sewing Machines, all in Worcester; and was a demonstrator of Sunbeam Appliances and instructor and demonstrator at Necchi-Elna sewing machines. She was a former member of the Old South Congregational Church and Tatnuck Congregation Church of Worcester, First Congregational Church of Holden and the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs. She was also a member of the Holden Garden Club, Holden Hospital Auxiliary, Holden Congregational Church Thrift Shop, Holden Walking Club, Dramacons and Philathea at Tatnuck Congregational Church and Leicester Grange.

Marguerite had a lifelong passion for drama. She performed in plays in schools and in churches and read children's stories on the radio. She sang in church choirs for 50 years and was a published poet, an expert seamstress and enjoyed perennial gardening. With her husband, she camped and traveled all over the U.S. and later she traveled to many countries. In retirement she took many classes and courses – eager to learn and to enrich herself and her community.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend at calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 25th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton.
