STERLING – Lloyd “Red” E. Hilton, Jr., 81, of 8 Boutelle Road, a 43-year resident of Sterling, died Monday, May 22, 2006, in Leominster Hospital after a long illness.
His wife of 33 years, Lila R. (McMahon) Hilton, died in 1988. He leaves three daughters, Deborah L. Hartung of Sterling, Patricia A. Young of Boylston and Mary E. Malone of Rutland; a brother, Delos M. Hilton of Rutland; seven grandchildren who loved him as “Poppy”, Kara, Bill, Carrie, Meghan, Nicholas, Thomas and Faith; several nieces and nephews. Two siblings, John L. Hilton and Elizabeth Janet Hilton, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Lloyd E. and Leah K. (Sandborn) Hilton, Sr., and was a graduate of Commerce High School. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific theater, where he was awarded a bronze star.
Mr. Hilton was a master molder at Fitchburg Foundry for 45 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First Church in Sterling, the Boylston Senior Citizens, the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 in Sterling, Sterling Horseman’s Association, and the Friendly Riders Motorcycle Club of Worcester. He built and restored carriages, enjoyed carpentry and was an avid sports fan.
The funeral service for Mr. Hilton will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 26, in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road, Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling.
