HOLDEN – Norman L. Kasparson, J.D., 78, of Holden, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in UMass Memorial Hospital-University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Anja S. (Kangas) Kasparson; a son, Peter K. Kasparson and his wife Suzanne of Holden; two brothers, Alan C. Kasparson and his wife Joyce of Land O'Lakes, Florida and Paul A. Kasparson and his wife Janet of Newport, Rhode Island; a granddaughter, Lauren J. Kasparson of Holden; three nieces and many cousins. He was born in Worcester, the son of Lennart A. and Nancy V. (Sundquist) Kasparson and lived in Holden for 47 years.
Mr. Kasparson graduated from North High School, Worcester in 1950 and Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire in 1954, where he was a member of the Sphinx Senior Honor Society. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving at the Pentagon as well as at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He later earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1960 from Harvard Law School.
He joined State Mutual Insurance Company as a practicing attorney and retired as Vice President of the Investment Law Staff in 1991, after 30 years. He was a 50-year member of the Worcester County Bar Association, Worcester County Dartmouth Club, Dartmouth Lawyers Association and Friends of Dartmouth Basketball. He was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Greendale Retired Men's Club and a retired Director of the Cemetery Board at All Faith's Cemetery. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed swimming at the Greendale YMCA and refinishing furniture, gardening, caning and carving birds and summering in Maine.
The memorial service for Mr. Kasparson will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 18th in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Holden. Burial will be private in All Faith's Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, MA 01520; or to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
