PRINCETON / HOLDEN – Lillian E. (Oberg) Gagne, 86, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 1, 2021, in Holden Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center. She was born in Holden, the daughter of Gustaf W. and Doris L. (Lapointe) Oberg and had lived in Princeton for most of her life before moving to Rutland.
Her former husband, David “Boy” F. Gagne, Sr., passed away in 2010. She leaves her son, David F. Gagne, Jr. and his wife, Cristine of Westminster; her daughters, Denise “Dee” Wohlander of Holden, Debbie Gagne of Westminster, Linda Gagne of Rutland and her companion, Peter Begley of Westminster, Brenda Gagne and her fiancé’ Alan Wheeler of Gardner, Lisa Chartrand and her husband, Ronald of Templeton; her grandchildren, Erik, Melissa, Keith, Kaitlyn, David III, Jim, Raymond, Laura, Carolann, Tom and Zack; eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Beverly Irvine.
Lillian graduated from Holden High School where she was captain of the basketball team. She was a dedicated stay at home mom and coached her children’s basketball and baseball teams for years, also playing on local softball teams herself well into her 60’s. Later in life, Lillian went to work at Apple Drug Store in Holden and Stop & Shop in Worcester before she officially retired. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Princeton and a diehard New England sports fan.
Funeral services for Lillian will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the First Congregational Church of Princeton, 14 Mountain Road. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Princeton. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, appropriate social distancing and wearing of a mask will be required at both locations. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
