WORCESTER/DEDHAM - Lila (Levitan) Belofsky, 95, a resident of NewBridge on the Charles, Dedham, Massachusetts, formerly residing in Worcester, for forty years prior to living in Boca Raton, FL and West Hyannis Port, died on Monday, August 8, 2022.
Lila was known for her kindness and positive disposition. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Jacob Belofsky, as well as their son, William Belofsky. She leaves 2 daughters, Bayla, wife of Herbert Lovens of Port Washington, NY and Chatham, and Joanie, wife of Jeffrey Spalter of Longboat Key, FL and Chatham; and a son, Richard Belofsky, and his wife Mary Beth Giffune of Arlington. She leaves seven grandchildren: Jessica (Lovens) Cohen, Jonah Lovens, Haley (Belofsky) Gill, Olivia (Belofsky) Dailey, Rachel Belofsky, Benjamin Spalter and Daniel Spalter; and eight great-grandchildren: Emma and Zachary Cohen, Noa and Jack Lovens, Liam and Margot Gill, Elise Dailey and Maxwell Spalter.
Lila grew up in the Greater Boston area, attending West Roxbury High School and Emerson College, where she served as president of the college’s Hillel group. She met her husband, Jake, the love of her life, when he was a student at Tufts Dental College. They married and settled in Worcester when Jake graduated as part of the first orthodontic class at that institution.
Lila was involved in many social and charitable groups during her time in Worcester. She was a member and President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Worcester District Dental Society, and a Lifetime Member of Hadassah, serving as Worcester Chapter President. She was a member of Brandeis Women, ORT, National Council of Jewish Women, Temple Emanuel Sisterhood and PTA’s at her children’s respective schools. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Canasta, going to the beach and playing in the Women’s Golf League at Mt. Pleasant Country Club. She loved reading fiction, especially mysteries and historical fiction.
A memorial observance will be held at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center at NewBridge on the Charles, 7000 Great Meadow Road, Dedham, MA at 11:30 AM on Thursday, August 11th.
A graveside service will then be conducted at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. Johns Road, Worcester at 3:00 PM the same day. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to NewBridge on the Charles online at
