PRINCETON – Lester A. Walker, 79, of Princeton, died peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2009 in the Sterling Healthcare Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary A. (Costello) Walker; five children, Wayne Walker and his wife Teri of Rutland, Glenn Walker and his wife Joanne of Worcester, Susan Keirstead and her husband Dale of West Boylston, Marlene Bean and her husband Dennis of Paxton and John Walker; a sister, Viola Ulm from Rhode Island; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Gene and Scott Walker, and also by 13 brothers and sisters.
Lester was born in Providence, Rhode Island, a son of Nathan E. and Lena (Card) Walker, and has lived the last 47 years in Princeton. He served his country as a radio operator during the Korean conflict with the 7th armored division stationed in Germany. He was a truck driver for many years working for P.S. Dubrey Trucking, and a long time member of Local 170 Teamster Union in Worcester. Lester was a charter member of the Princeton Lions Club and a life time member of the New England Fly Tyers. Along with his love of fly tying and fishing, he also enjoyed trips to the casino and to Maine, and any time spent with his family.
A memorial service for Lester will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 5th, in the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street, West Boylston. Burial will be private in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brookhaven Hospice, 25 Oriol Drive, Worcester, MA 01605. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
