Leonard 'Beepe' Mcglynn

HOLDEN – Leonard J. (Beepe) McGlynn, Jr. of Holden died on May 18, 2015 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester after a brief illness.
Leonard leaves his beloved wife of 50 years, Marcia (Labossiere) McGlynn; a son, Daniel E. McGlynn and his wife, Lynne of Rutland; a daughter Stephanie A. Tuccio and her husband, Andrew of Worcester; a sister, Kathlyn M. Logan and her husband, John of Spencer; eight cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Katie and Joey McGlynn of Rutland, Noah, Michael and Reece Waterman, Andrew Tuccio, Jr. and Abigail Cloutier all of Worcester; his lifelong friend, Richard G. Newton, many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his father Leonard J. McGlynn, Sr. He is predeceased by his mother, Alberta (Davenport) McGlynn and a brother, Michael P. McGlynn.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Leonard J. and Alberta (Davenport) McGlynn. Leonard graduated from North High School, the former Worcester Jr. College, Clark University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he received his MSME. Leonard was a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He worked for the former Burke Engineering Associates and Consulting Engineers of Worcester for 15 years as a Project Engineer. He worked for the Raytheon Company of Waltham for 21 years where he was a Senior Principal Staff Engineer and Project Manager in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. He retired in January, 2000.
Leonard was very proud of the principle role he played in the development of Raytheon’s many military defense systems, most notably the Patriot Missile System as well as his role as the Environmental and Meteorological Project Manager for Raytheon’s SIVAM program. In 1993 he was one of the first Raytheon engineers to travel to the Amazon Basin of Brazil to evaluate equipment requirements for the surveillance and protection of the Amazon’s rain forests and rivers. After retirement, Leonard devoted the majority of his time to his family, especially his eight grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed genealogy and tracing his Irish heritage. Leonard was a member of the Rutland Sportsman’s Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A committal service will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
