Worcester/Delray Beach – Leon Jonas, age 94, died on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at his home, surrounded by the loving presence of his family.
Leon was born in Worcester, a son of Charles and Rose (Silber) Jonas, and lived in Worcester for most of his life, before retiring to Delray Beach many years ago. He founded New England Canteen Service, Inc., which he operated for many years before his retirement. Leon, a veteran, was an avid bridge player and golfer.
Leon will be lovingly missed and remembered by his sons, Lawrence Katz and his wife Jill, of New Jersey, and Jeffrey Jonas of New York City; his daughter, Michele Schmitt of Florida; his daughter-in-law, Cantor Marcie Jonas of Sudbury; and his beloved seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 51 years, Claire (Pollack) Jonas in 2012.
Family and friends will gather for a graveside funeral service on Wednesday, September 15 at 10:00 am at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road in Worcester. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
