HOLDEN – Lena M. (Arcure) Fontaine, 89, of Holden, died peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Holden Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center. She was born in Worcester, one of seven children to Italian immigrants, Samuel S. and Mary (Terranova) Arcure.
She graduated from Commerce High School and worked for Worcester Envelope, Thom McAn Shoe and retired from Hebert Candy in Shrewsbury, where she took great care in packaging various candy items. She participated in programs at the Jewish Community Center. She was dedicated to her family and was a loving mother and grandmother in so many ways. A faith-filled woman, Lena attended Saint George Parish in Worcester.
Lena leaves her daughter, Deborah L. Fontaine of Holden and her son, David H. Fontaine and his girlfriend, Cherie Kerxhalli of Holden; her granddaughter, Tracy Markoff and her husband, Nate; her grandson, Richard Nartowt, Jr. and wife, Stephanie; two great granddaughters, Sofia and Layla Markoff; as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Mary Cavallaro, Delores Coran, Ida Lambert and Dorothy Oles, as well as her two brothers, Frederick and Samuel Arcure.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lena’s family on Monday, June 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 16, with family gathering at the funeral home at 9 a.m. and proceeding to a celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint George Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
