HOLDEN – Thomas L. Dunphy, 88, of Steele Street, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 in UMass Memorial-Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness.
His wife of 48 years, Lucille M. (Pratt) Dunphy, died in May of 2008. He leaves a daughter, Donna L. Asher and her husband Michael of Springfield; two sisters, Jennie Murphy of Houlton, Maine and Lucille Appleby of Portland, Maine; two grandsons, Jeffrey Asher and his wife Tara and Keith Asher and his wife Kate, all of East Longmeadow; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Caelan, Liam and Aidan; and several nieces and nephews including Jim Kellogg, Jr. and Jonathan Kellogg.
Mr. Dunphy was born on September 14, 1922 in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, the son of Thomas and Mabel Dunphy. Tom was raised in Maine and graduated from Houlton High School before moving to Massachusetts over 50 years ago. He worked for Rexnord Company in Worcester for many years, retiring as a Purchasing Agent. He was an avid reader and loved big band music.
A private graveside service will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
