PAXTON – Lawrence H. Wentzell, Sr., 63, longtime movie projectionist and avid milk bottle collector, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at his home in Paxton.
Larry leaves his wife of 37 years, Ruth (Fairbanks) Wentzell; two sons, Major Lawrence H. Wentzell of the U.S. Marine Corps and his wife Cecilia of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Jeffrey A. Wentzell of Cumberland, Rhode Island; a sister, Susan Russell and her husband Dave of Auburn; a brother, Ronald Wentzell and his wife Cathy of Lunenburg; and a granddaughter, Alexandra. Larry later worked at New England Telephone Company and Heald Machine for 15 years. He was a projectionist at local theaters for 30 years, and in 2004, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette profiled him when the Bijou Movie Theater closed. "I'll bet I haven't had a weekend off in 25 years", Larry told the paper. He was a longtime member of International Alliance Theatrical Stage Employees Local 96 in Worcester.
Later in life he collected Massachusetts milk bottles, a hobby rooted in his father's dairy business, S. H. Wentzell & Sons Pioneer Dairy of Worcester.
