HOLDEN/WORCESTER – Lawrence E. Germain, 74, a Holden resident for over 40 years, passed away at home with family on Thursday, June 7, 2012 after a long illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Lawrence E. and Mary (Pacenka) Germain, Sr. and graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade School.
He leaves a daughter, Kelly Michele and her husband James Duquette of Holden; two sons, Michael C. Germain and his wife Lisa of Worcester, Christopher D. Germain of Holden; two brothers, Paul Germain and his wife Nancy of Worcester, David Germain of Linwood; two sisters, Madeline Evarts and her husband Robert of Holden, Elaine Hewey of Whitinsville, and sister-in-law Rita Germain of Worcester; nine grandchildren, Scott, David, Patrick, John, Anthony, Nicole, David, Brandy and Madison; many godchildren, nephews and nieces. Lawrence was predeceased by a son, David N. Germain, a brother, Norman Germain and his former wife of 35 years, Marie V. (O’Riordan) Germain.
Lawrence joined the Navy and later enlisted in the Army and after serving his country for over 9 years, he was honorably discharged in 1964. He was employed with Raytheon Company for many years, retiring in 1993. A jazz enthusiast and collector, he contributed to the annual jazz program at WICN public radio. He was dedicated to supporting many charities including the Boys and Girls Club and Friendly House of Worcester, WGBH television, and the Christian Children’s Fund. Lawrence was an avid fan of New England Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. He loved the game of golf and in his youth he enjoyed adventures traveling the world.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Funeral services for Mr. Germain will be held on Wednesday, June 13, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester followed by a committal service at St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester, 65 Tainter Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
