HOLDEN – Theodore Laska, 87, of Laurel Hill Lane, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 after an illness.
His wife of 58 years, Muriel E. (MacDonald) Laska, died in 2001. He leaves three sons, Andrew B. Laska of Woodacre, California, Theodore R. Laska of Rochester, Minnesota and David P. Laska of Holden; two grandchildren, Emily and Daniel Laska; many nieces and nephews. A brother, John Laska and three sisters, Katherine Thanas, Angelina Cote and Olga Karxhalli, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester the son of Sotir and Nunka (Simeo) Laska and lived in Holden for 35 years.
Mr. Laska graduated from Commerce High School, attended Worcester State College, and worked at Crompton Knowles Inc. in Worcester for 29 years, retiring in 1973. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and served as a sergeant with the 563rd Bombardment Squadron in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves with the 50th Fighting Wing which was activated during the Korean Conflict.
He was the past commander of the Greendale American Legion Post in Worcester, a member of the West Boylston Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the disabled American Veterans Association. He was an active member of the Masons including, Athelston Lodge of Masons, a 32nd Degree Mason with Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester, Melha Temple Shrine and the Melha Legion of Honor both in Springfield. He was a member of the Greendale People's Church in Worcester
A memorial service for Mr. Laska will be held at 1p.m. on Friday, January 2nd in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be private in the Bourne National Cemetery.
