Worcester - Lars E. Johansson, 92, died peacefully at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Worcester on Saturday, January 13, 2024. He was one of six children born in Småland Sweden, and immigrated to Worcester where he lived the remainder of his life.
Lars will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife Ingrid Johansson of Worcester, son Steve Johansson of Connecticut; his daughter Linda Coyle of Paxton; his son Andrew Johansson, and his wife, Leslie of Paxton; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lars served in the Swedish Navy and later became a master pastry chef. He immigrated to Worcester in 1960 to work at the former Crown Bakery. He passed on his knowledge as a teacher and culinary instructor beginning at the Culinary Institute of America, continuing at Bay Path Regional Technical High School and Cape Cod Tech and finishing his career at Johnson and Wales University where he founded and directed the International Pastry School. He was a seasoned veteran of culinary competitions, winning several medals in the IKA Culinary Olympics.
Lars loved cooking, judging food shows, jazz music, painting, golfing and cookouts with his family.
Services for Lars will be held privately. Miles Funeral Home Main St., Holden is assisting the family with arrangements.
