WORCESTER - Kevin M. Rice, 74, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished member of the community, passed away on November 4, 2024, at the Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester after an extended period of declining health.
Born on November 8, 1949, in Worcester, MA, Kevin was the beloved son of the late George A. and Eleanor B. (Savage) Rice. Raised in Boylston, he developed a lifelong love for sports and fostered a strong connection to his community. Kevin played baseball with the local Little League team and was a proud 1967 graduate of Tahanto Regional High School where he excelled on the varsity basketball team. He continued his education at the Andover Institute of Business where he was a star player in their basketball team.
Kevin's professional journey began as a computer programmer and analyst at St. Vincent Hospital. His most notable career achievement was his 22-year tenure at Digital Equipment Corporation, a role he took great pride in and where he made lasting contributions to the organization.
Love and devotion were central to Kevin's life, beginning with his marriage to Linda Marin on May 18, 1974. Together, they built a beautiful family with the birth of their son, Jonathan. The family grew stronger in the embrace of their shared faith as long-time members of St. George Church in Worcester. Kevin served his church community as a Eucharistic minister and assistant head usher for several years.
With a zest for life, Kevin enjoyed golfing, playing cribbage, pinochle, and poker. He was an ardent fan of 70's music, and his love for sports extended to basketball, soccer, golf, and football. As a dedicated New England Patriots fan, Kevin cherished the camaraderie of game days. His appreciation for the fantastical worlds of Star Wars and science fiction added a touch of whimsy to his life.
