Holden- Kenneth A. Starbard, 97, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family and caregiver on Saturday, April 29, 2023. He was born in Worcester, the son of Lloyd W. and Mary Louise (Allen) Starbard and lived his whole life in Holden.
Kenneth graduated from Holden High School, class of 1944. Having previously enlisted in the US Navy, he reported for duty the day after graduation. Kenneth served two years aboard the USS Montour APA 101 during WWII in the Pacific Theater and occupation of Japan after the war ended.
Upon returning home, Kenneth started his career with the City of Worcester Water Department, holding several positions, including Foreman, General Foreman and Supervisor of Water Supply at Moy Ranch, Holden. After 40 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1986.
In 1952 Kenneth married the love of his life, Alice Winifred (Wentworth). The couple settled in the house they built together on South Road in Holden, where they raised their young family.
Kenneth was a life member of the National Rifle Association, the John E. Harkins Post 42 American Legion. He was a member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons for 75 years, where he was awarded the Joseph Warren Distinguished Service Medal. He was a member of the Central Mass Civil War Round Table and Colonel William Henshaw Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. Colonel Henshaw was Kenneth's great, great, great grandfather. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden and Worcester County Model A Ford Club.
Kenneth was predeceased by his beloved wife, Winifred, of 66 years and his brother Roger A. Starbard. He is survived by his sons, Evan and his wife Meg, of Rutland, Eric and his wife Michele, of Sterling, and Eliot and his wife Lisa, of Oakham. He leaves his treasured six grandchildren: Audrey, Rachael, Andrew, Dana, Christopher, and Alex, as well as his great-grandchildren; Lillian and Adelaide.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 11 am-12 pm with a memorial service starting at 12pm on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Miles Funeral Home, 1155 Main St, Holden. Internment to follow at Grove Cemetery; Main St.; Holden.
