RUTLAND - Kenneth D. Simes, 72, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester. He was born in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late Kenneth D. and Audrey M. (Robar) Simes.
Ken was a proud member of the Class of 1960 at Wachusett Regional High School. He entered the US Air Force in 1964 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He spent 32 years working for L & J of New England in Worcester, where he currently was the screen printing manager. Ken was a loving husband and father. A quiet and unassuming guy, Ken always had a positive word about everyone. Never the one looking for attention, Ken was the most welcoming guy at the party. He enjoyed being busy, loved to tinker and seemed to have a solution for most any problem. Ken spent hours fishing with his good friend, Doug Miller, but there never seemed to be much catching going on.
Ken leaves his beloved wife of 45 years, Elaine F. (White) Simes; his two children, Karen Phillips and her husband, Theodore Phillips, Jr. of Rutland and Kevin Simes and his wife, Jennifer of Rutland; his four cherished grandchildren, Teddy and Rebecca Phillips and, Abby and Michael Simes; his brother, Brian V. Simes of West Boylston; as well as many nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ken’s family on Saturday, February 7, from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rutland Food Pantry, c/o Saint Patrick’s Parish, P.O. Box 939, Rutland, MA 01543.
