HOLDEN – Kenneth S. Riel, 82, formerly of Holden, died peacefully on Monday, February 26th at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester after battling several months of declining health. He was born in Worcester, as one of seven children to his late parents, Clarence and Adolpha (Jersyzk) Riel. He attended St. John’s High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a crew chief. Following his time in the Air Force, he was employed by Norton Company in Worcester until he retired. He was an avid golfer and was an active member of Wachusett Country Club. During the winter months his passion was skiing and he always had a season ticket at Wachusett Mountain. As a native of Massachusetts he was a lifelong fan and supporter of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Hutchins and her husband, David of Tolland, CT; his son, John Riel of Valley Village, CA and their mother, Phyllis Riel also of Tolland, CT; his sisters, Louise Skliut of Worcester, Sandra Farrell and her husband, Frank of Oxford; along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is predeceased by his brothers; Clarence Jr. and Donald; and his sisters, Phyllis and Ann Marie. His family wishes to extend a very grateful thanks to his closest friends, Tony and Joyce, for all of their help and support through the years. They were always there for him, especially in his time of need and the family appreciates all that they have done for him.
