Kenneth J. Lowe, Jr.

RUTLAND - Kenneth J. Lowe, Jr. passed away quietly on May 27, 2023, with his wife Ruth of 60 years by his side. He was the son of Kenneth J. Lowe, Sr. and Mildred T. (Watson) Lowe. He leaves three beloved children: Valerie A. DiPietro, wife of Thomas DiPietro of Ayer, Pamela R. Leviton and her husband Mark, and Jeffrey K. Lowe and his wife Cecelia all of Rutland; also six grandchildren: Jay, Amanda, Josh and Scott Duncan and Zachary and Jake Lowe, as well as several step-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Julia Carosella, and brother Richard Lowe and his wife Joan; and several nephews and nieces.

Over the years, Ken was active in multiple Rutland activities with his most recent project being the restoration of the Old Fire Station. Others included 25 years on the Rutland Fire Department where he rose to the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 1986. He also served on many town boards including as a Selectman, a member of the town Finance Committee, and on several search committees. He was a member of the Democratic Town Committee and the Rutland Sportsman's Club for many years and was instrumental in creating the annual Fire Brigade Golf Tournament that was designated as the Kenny Lowe Invitational Tournament for 2023.

Ken was an avid sports fan and traveled to Ft. Myers for 23 years to work as an usher for the Red Sox at Jet Blue Park. When the Red Sox minor league team moved to Worcester, and became the Woosox, he also worked as an usher at Polar Park beginning in their 2021 inaugural season.

Ken was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland. He was currently the Mountain Club on Loon Board of Directors President and had held that position for over 20 years. He also managed Barre's Pine Ridge Ski Area until its closing in 2006.

After graduating from North Adams State Teachers College, his career began as a teacher and subsequently, as an assistant principal at Chaffins School in Holden while earning his Master's Degree. From there he became a textbook salesman for Prentice Hall and retired in 2001 after 24 years as a salesman and district manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

Calling hours are at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden on Friday, June 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main St., Rutland, on Saturday, June 3rd at 11:00 am with burial immediately following at Rutland's Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Old Fire Station Restoration Fund in care of The Rutland Fire Brigade, 240 Main Street, c/o Tim Nahrwold, Rutland, MA 01543.
