PAXTON – Kenneth A. "Ken" Cutting, of Grove St., Paxton, and Kingsbury Beach, Eastham, Cape Cod, died unexpectedly on February 17, 2009 in his home.
He leaves his wife, Patricia A. "Patti" (O'Hearn) Cutting of Paxton; two sons, Craig W. Cutting and his wife Lorraine of Paxton and Curt A. Cutting and his wife Cindy of Templeton; three daughters, Sharen C. Shipley and her husband Bob of Stamford, CT, Kathleen A. McCarthy and her husband Tim of Westminster and Kerry L. Riedle and her husband Tracy of Rutland; eleven grandchildren; and two nieces, Debbie Cutting and Pam Mason. Two brothers, Richard Cutting and Donald Cutting predeceased him. He was born in Worcester the son of the late Clyde S. and Ethel (Morse) Cutting and lived in Paxton since 1956. He was the direct descendant of Richard Cutting who arrived in the American Colonies from England in 1634 on the Ship "Elizabeth of Ipswich".
Ken graduated Cum Laude from Northfield-Mount Hermon School in Northfield and from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he was awarded varsity letters for soccer. While at UMass he also directed and sang in an octet named the "Statesmen", which gave performances throughout New England. He proudly served overseas in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal.
He began his insurance career in 1956 as an agent with the New York Life Insurance Company and was also a Registered Representative for the New York Life Securities Corporation. He was a past member of the National Association of Securities Dealers, the Worcester Life Underwriters Association, the Massachusetts Life Underwriters Association, and the Million Dollar Round Table of the National Association of Life Underwriters. He was the recipient for many years of the National Quality Award and the National Sales Achievement Award. Ken was a past member of the New York Life Agents' Advisory Council and a life member of the New York Life Executive Council.
Ken was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, Paxton American Legion Post 306, the American Association of Retired Persons, and was past president of the Sons of Paxton Men's Club. He was a former head coach and manager for 10 years for the Paxton Little League.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, February 20th from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 21st, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton at the convenience of the family.
