Kathleen (O'Connor) Mcdavitt

May 21, 1931 — December 9, 2008

WORCESTER, MA/KENNEBUNK, ME – Kathleen (O'Connor) McDavitt, 77, formerly of Chickadee Lane, Kennebunk, Maine, died in Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.

She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of William Harold "Skip" and Blanche (Silvy) O'Connor and resided in Pascoag and Burrillville, Rhode Island, before moving to Concord in 1946 and Worcester in 1952.

She is survived by her two sons, John W. McDavitt and his wife Lisa of East Brookfield, and Thomas McDavitt and his wife Cynthia of Holden; a daughter, Patricia Sauriol and her husband Thomas of Englewood, FL and Moultonborough, NH; a brother, Neil O'Connor and his wife Nancy of Oro Valley, Arizona; a sister, Marion O'Connor of Shirley; 8 grandchildren, Bryan, Erynn, Connor, and Kailee McDavitt, Andrew Dawson, and Matthew and Danielle Sauriol; her former husband, John W. McDavitt; and special friends, Carole Carmichael and Ruth Silver. She was predeceased by her daughter, Maureen Dawson, who died in 2004 and a grandson, Shawn McDavitt in 1991.

Kathleen graduated from Concord High School, Concord, MA in 1948 and from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester in 1951. In 1981 she received her degree in Nursing Administration from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. She was a head nurse and staff nurse for the American Red Cross Blood Services from 1965-1993. Previously she was a registered nurse at Emerson Hospital in Concord, and St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

Kathleen was a former volunteer for the FISH and Books on Call in Kennebunk, ME and most recently volunteered for the Southern Maine Visiting Nurses and Beacon Hospice. She was a member of the Senior Center of Kennebunk, Friends of the Kennebunk Library, St. Vincent Alumni Assoc., Massachusetts Genealogical Association, Maine Genealogical Association, Maine History Center, FrancoAmerican Genealogical Association, Shawl Group and Small Group at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Kennebunk. She loved being with her family, reading, music, and doing family history. She especially enjoyed the ocean in Maine. She was an avid Red Sox fan, especially of Dustin Pedroia. The family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers, the staff of Home Instead in Maine, the Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester, and the VNA Hospice Network of Central MA.


The calling hours and funeral Mass for Kathleen will be held on Saturday, December 13th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Road, West Boylston. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be private in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wells, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to eHope Foundation, P.O.
