WORCESTER – Kathleen A. (Facos) Markees, 62, beloved wife of Thomas Markees, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, July 23, 2021. Born and raised in Kenmore, NY, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Regina (Reagan) Facos.
Kathleen attended schools in Kenmore, NY and went on to further her education at Hamilton College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music. She received her master’s degree in Library Science from Simmons College and trained as a bookbinder at the North Bennett Street School in Boston. She enjoyed a long career in the library system, archives, and theater collection at Harvard University and in the archives and special collections of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Kathy was very creative and enjoyed gardening, sewing, building things, and playing bass alongside her husband with their band, Wooing Dorothy. In her spare time, Kathy cherished the many years spent lending a hand backstage as her daughter Genevieve danced with MetroWest Ballet.
Kathy will be greatly missed and remembered by her husband of 35 years, Thomas; her daughter, Genevieve Markees; her sister, Michelle Facos; her niece, Hanna Francis; and the many others who knew and cared about her. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
