WORCESTER – Katherine Bourisk, 96, formerly of Lewiston, Maine, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in her home after an illness.
She leaves several nieces and nephews. Six brothers, George, John, Nelson, Elias I, Spirydon, and Elias II Bourisk and two sisters, Jenny Bourisk and Annie Peters, predeceased her. She was born in Ayeeta El-Fookyah, Lebanon, the daughter of Mike and Mary (Emary) Bourisk, and immigrated to the United States in 1937 residing in Lewiston for 60 years before moving to Worcester in 1997.
For many years Ms. Bourisk worked as a self-employed seamstress and clothes designer. She also taught in the Lewiston Public School System, as well as Bates College, and the University of Oregon. She was an active member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and it’s women’s club, and a member of the Eastern Star Rebecca Lodge in Lewiston.
The funeral service for Ms. Bourisk will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street, Worcester. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Endowment Fund at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street, Worcester, MA 01604; or the Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606.
