HOLDEN - Katherine (Proko) Arakelian passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester. Born in Worcester on November 15, 1942, she was a daughter of Thomas E. and Despina (Mina) Proko.
She is survived by her husband, Seth N. Arakelian, children Andrea Adams of Westborough, Seth G. Arakelian and his wife Aneta of Harvard, Alexis Arakelian and her husband Roderick McNeil of Schwenskville, PA and her brother, Paul Proko and his wife, Ann of Holden. Her sister, Patricia (Proko) Morris, passed away in 2012. She also leaves her two nieces, Despina O'Connor and Deanna Proko, many cousins and friends.
She graduated from South High School and Worcester State College with a Bachelor's and Master's degree. She grew up in Worcester and after a brief time in Westford, she settled in Holden where she raised her children.
Kathy was an elementary school teacher in Lowell and the Worcester Public School system for many years.
She was an active member, Sunday School teacher and volunteer at both St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church and the Armenian Church of Our Savior, both in Worcester. She was a longtime member of the Daughter's of Vartan at the Armenian Church.
She dedicated her life to her family. Kathy enjoyed reading, shopping and yearly trips to the Maine beaches. She was known for her impeccable clothes and style.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center and her caregivers Rita, Tee and Doris.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Kathy's Family on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM in St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester followed by a funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
