Karl T. Lavallee

January 1, 1927 — July 6, 2015

HOLDEN - Karl T. Lavallee, 88, a longtime Holden resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, Worcester. Born in Worcester, Karl was one of nine children of Oscar and Katherine (Moriarty) Lavallee, and grew up on Eureka Street in a home built by his father.

Karl was a 17-year-old Saint John’s High School student when he enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He was stationed at the naval hospital in San Diego. Upon returning to Worcester, Karl finished high school and then graduated from Saint Francis College in Lorreto, PA. Following his graduation, Karl began working for the former New England Telephone Company, and retired as an engineer from NYNEX in 1989. Karl was an avid New England sports fan, always making time to catch the Red Sox or Celtics, whom ever was playing that day. Karl enjoyed playing golf, and could often be found on the links of Bedrock in Rutland where he had scored a hole in one. He was a talented skier, a sport he and his late wife, Shirley enjoyed together and skied into his 80’s. He was a longtime season ticket holder at Wachusett Mountain and skied with its Old Timers Club. Together, Karl and Shirley enjoyed visiting the coast of southern Maine, especially the York and Ogunquit areas.

Karl was predeceased by his beloved wife, M. Shirley (Huber) Lavallee in 2011. He leaves his three children, JoAnne M. Gallant and her husband, Paul of Nashua, NH, Daniel J. Lavallee of Middleton and Patricia A. Giles and her husband, Steven of York, ME; his four cherished grandchildren, Lisa and Daniel Gallant and Ellie and Nicholas Giles; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eight siblings, James, Anthony, Paul, Philip, Joan, Mary, Nancy and Regina.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Karl’s family on Thursday, July 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
