HOLDEN - Karin L. (Smith) Brewer, 91, beloved wife of the late Charles H. Brewer, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Jewish Healthcare Center. Born in Welwyn Garden City, England, she was the daughter of the late John and Karin (Jannson) Smith.
Karin met her future husband, and love of her life, Charles "Charlie" H. Brewer while swimming at Unionville Pond in Holden. They married on her birthday, March 17, 1951, and celebrated 63 years of marriage until his passing in 2014. Karin enjoyed a long career as a food service manager at Mountview Middle School. In her spare time, she could often be found sitting at the pond surrounded by numerous family members and friends. She loved feeding her menagerie of furry and feathered friends. She took great pride in being able to ride her tractor maintaining her vegetable and flower gardens into her 90's.
She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her daughter, Susan LaBaire and her former husband, Richard of Holden; her two sons, Paul Brewer and his wife, Debbie and David Brewer and his wife, Julie, all of Edgartown; her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Brewer, Richard LaBaire and his wife, Lisa, John LaBaire, Katie Tedeschi and her husband, Nick, Lucas Brewer and his wife, Tiffany, Cody Brewer, Christina and her husband Chad Absten, James, Ashton and his wife Caroline, Donald, Maggie and Jennie Brewer; 13 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Bethanie, Justin, Brennan, Harlow, Madelyn, Eriana, Colt and Kasey, Logan, Lilly, Bhodi and Courtlyn; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Charles H. Brewer, she was predeceased by her son, Peter C. Brewer, her sister, Joann Blum-Harrington and two brothers, Colonel Roy Smith and Roger Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Karin's family from 10 to 12 p.m. On Friday, December 20th at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service honoring her life will follow at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any local animal shelter.
