BARRE, MA / ENFIELD,CT - Karen E. Panaccione, 68, a resident of Enfield, CT since 1968 and formerly of Barre, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 with her family by her side. Born June 13, 1943 in Winchendon, she was the daughter of Hugo and Ruth (McQueston) Kallio, was raised in State Line, NH and later lived in Barre, MA before moving to Enfield, CT in 1969.
Karen married Thomas Panaccione in Barre in 1962. They have three children, Thomas H. Panaccione of Suffield,CT, Kristine Cobb and her husband William of Sutton and Karla Malley and her husband James of Ellington, CT; four grandchildren, Caitlin Cobb, Riley Cobb, Justin Malley and Erin Malley. Karen also leaves her brother, James Kallio and his wife Carol, of Wells, Maine; and a second family in Barre where she lived with Alice McQueston and Martha Femino (McQueston) for several years as a teenager.
Karen attended Peter Bent Brigham Nursing School in Boston. She used her nursing skills to work for the Arthritis Treatment Center in Springfield for over 30 years.
Thank you to all our family and friends and health providers for your kindness to Karen. She found joy and happiness in knowing and caring for others. She smiled every day of her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14, in St. Joseph Church, 29 South St., Barre, with interment following in St. Joseph Cemetery, Barre. Donations may be made to the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, 3350 Main St., Springfield, MA 01107.
