LEICESTER - Karen J. Corkum, 59 passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2010, surrounded and loved by her devoted family at home.
She resided in Leicester for years in a community neighborhood that loved her. Karen was cared for and loved infinity universes and more by Meridith "Meri" A. and Lisa M. Terranova-Viano. She also leaves the loving children whom will be missing her daily, Nico, Dimitri "Meech" and Lindsay "Lulu" Viano. Karen will be remembered especially by her loving dedicated connection Ms. Laura Viano of Sterling.
She was born in Brockton daughter of Richard and Lalia (Shultz) Corkum. Karen leaves her grandparents Leroy "Grandpa" and Marvelene "Mema" Maynard of Worcester; Victor "Pa" Salluce and Imogene "Nana" Salluce, whom has predeceased her of Sterling. Karen also leaves close extended family members and companions William "Pup" and Pamela "Nonni" Viano of Sterling. She will be closely remembered by Jamie, Sandy, Michael, Amanda, Matthew, Jason, Jason, Jessica , Scott and Renee. Additional family will celebrate your life such as, Aunt Lou, Mary "May" , Irma, Donna and Ms. Mary Goretti and Uncle Carmine "Sonny" and Uncle Joe Salluce. Karen will watch above as a butterfly upon her neices Ainsley, Shaniqua, Kyeasia, Kiauna, Natalia, Paige, and Taylor, her nephews Mikey, Azhur, DeDe, Anthony "Ant" , Nicolas "Bee", and Dominic "Dom the Bomb". Karen also was cared and loved by Sarah in her home, and extended families The Whites, The Boyntons, The Lamberts, The Stevens, The Obriens, The Wymans, The Kirbys and The Frohock families.
Karen enjoyed many friends along the years whom believed in her every day of her life- Ms.Elaine Gaudette of Newington, CT ; Mr.Peter Wyman of Lancaster, Ms. Lisa Carson of Ayer , and Ms. Tanya Stonehouse. Karen lived a full life with her family and opened up the eyes of many to become a friend, teacher and connection to all that she met. She enjoyed her several trips to Florida, and locations all across New England. Karen's favorite place will be remembered by all her loved ones which was York Beach ME. She would walk, sit and love the ocean as it crashed on the rocks and created many memories with her family: The sounds of the ocean waves, the smells of the fresh air and the watching of her favorite activity the children playing in the water.
Karen continued to celebrate her life attending parties, holidays, weddings and a full 50th year birthday on a cruise to Key West and Cozmel, Mexico. Karen celebrated other holidays in the "Full" Italian family celebrations. Her favorite delights made her smile and wink so that everyone knew that she loved them. It was the little pieces of love that Karen sent to all. Karen had a purpose of teaching the world small lessons of love, friendship, humor, "Chaos", and connection. She would teach people around her that a fighter, a determination could conquer any challenge life would hand to you.
The large family of Karen wishes to express their gratitude to the following people: Dr. Kilbride, Dr. Yu, Dr. Michael Thiim and Kathy of Mass General Hospital, Dr. Joseph Kurvilla of UMass Medical Care, Katie Juchno RN, Attorney Amy Didonna, Ms. Colleen Tunney, Ms. Tanya Re Cahill, Ms. Serah, Ms. Deb, Mr. Peter Trayers, Mr. David Desjardins, and the Doctors and Nurses at St.Vincents P-ICU floor. In additional Karen's family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the Jewish Homecare & Hospice who dedicated their love and care to our family and especially Karen in her journey to peace: Jess, Suzanne, Ann-Marie, Aida, and Denise.
"It takes a village to raise a child, but one angel to teach the world" Karen you will be missed, remembered and celebrated every day.
Karen's celebration of life will be held with the family's request in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Karen's life to the Children's Friend, Inc. (for The Carriage House), 21 Cedar Street, Worcester, MA 01609 to help heal and teach children to grief for their loved ones. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
