Kara Ann Sullivan Whitney-Morris "Kk", 41, passed away on Monday September 17, 2018. Kara made a much delayed entrance into this world in her own unique and stubborn way. After much waiting, Kara joined her family on July 5, 1977. From the day she was born she was the favorite baby of the family, much to the chagrin of her older sister.
As she grew up it was easy to see that she was every bit the Irish stubborn daughter of Eileen Ordung, sprinkled with a heaping handful of dry humor that made her much like her father, Weymouth Whitney, the life of the party. Kara's greatest joy in life was being a mother to her daughter, Mary Catherine. Kara was kind and was instinctively drawn to caring for people and animals. She was artistically gifted, a skilled writer and an exceptionally good listener. As with everything in life, Kara did not take the easy way , but was successful nonetheless. From Wachusett Regional she entered UMass Amherst before earning an Associates in Nursing from Quinsigamond Community College. She aspired to work as a substance abuse counselor. Kara volunteered her time tutoring students at Quinsigamond Community College as well as caring for animals at local animal shelters. While Kara took her time entering this world, she left us all too soon.
She leaves behind her heart broken family; her mother, Eileen Ordung , her father, Weymouth Whitney her daughter, Mary Catherine Morris and her father, Brian Morris of Ludlow; her step father, William Ordung and family; her former mother-in-law, Maryanne Morris; her partner and love of her life, Jim Hiland of Sterling; her sister, Heather and her husband, Rod of VA; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Kara's family from 4 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service on Saturday, September 22 at the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spectrum Health Systems Inc., 10 Mechanic St., Suite 302, Worcester, MA 01608 or NEADS, Dogs for disabled Americans, 305 Redemption Rock Trail, Princeton, MA 01541.
