WORCESTER – Edward J. Weber, 88, of Holden Street, died peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2010 in the Autumn Village Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves a brother, Walter A. Weber of California, several nephews, and his close friends James and Joyce Purcell of Holden and their family. Two sisters, Helen McCarron and Catherine Weber predeceased him. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, the son of Justus C. and Nellie L. (Boyan) Weber.
Mr. Weber studied at Columbia University. He served in the United States Coast Guard as well as the United States Merchant Marines during the World War II era. After serving in the military Mr. Weber was a correspondent analyst for the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York. For many years he worked as a business manager for the actor Ramon Novarro in Hollywood, California. During his time in Hollywood he also owned and operated a ceramics factory known as “Works”. He was a member of St. George’s Church in Worcester.
The Weber and Purcell families extend their most sincere thanks to the staff at Autumn Village Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester for their dedicated and loving care of Mr. Weber.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Mr. Weber’s life will be held at St. George’s Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester at a later date. Burial will be private in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. Donations in Mr. Weber’s name may be sent to St. George’s Church Memorial Fund, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
