June B. (Sargent) Szymkiewicz

July 11, 1929 — March 13, 2015

WEST BOYLSTON -- June B. (Sargent) Szymkiewicz, 85, of West Boylston, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2015, under the loving care of her family and the staff at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. Born and raised in Clinton, June was the daughter of Charles E. and Louise (Gagnon) Sargent and lived 43 years in Sterling before moving to West Boylston in 1992.



June's husband of 42 years, Peter J. Szymkiewicz, died in 1990. She leaves her son, Scott P. Szymkiewicz and his wife Tracy of West Boylston; her daughter, Lynn M. Hayes and her husband Robert of Hubbardston; a sister, Dorothy L. Beirholm of Lancaster; 7 grandchildren, Robert F. Hayes, Jr., Kimberly A. Hayes, Shannon L. Szymkiewicz O'Neill, Chelsea N. Szymkiewicz, James M. Kaminski, Jesse D. Kaminski, and Sara A. Kaminski Yost; 11 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Besides her husband, June is predeceased by two brothers, Charles E. and Harold T. Sargent and a sister, Shirley M. Pupecki.



After marrying the love of her life in 1948, June and her husband Peter moved to Sterling where they raised their two children. June loved to travel and looked forward to her annual cross country road trips with her family and vacations along the New England coast. She traveled well into her 70's which included trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Paris. In her spare time, you could find June at the Beaman Memorial Public Library with a stack of books that she selected for her weekly reading. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be remembered for her gentle kindness and understanding counsel. Most importantly, June cherished her time spent with family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She will be lovingly missed by her friends at Orchard Knoll in West Boylston where she lived the last 16 years.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit with June's family from 4 to 7 p.m. , Wednesday, March 18, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Street, West Boylston. Interment will be held privately at a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling.
