Biography
WORCESTER – Judith Katherine Stockenberg, of Worcester, was lifted up on angel’s wings on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Born on November 8, 1940 in Watertown, NY, she was the eldest child of Floyd and Helen Lendrum. Judy is survived by her sons and daughter, Derek Stockenberg, his wife Therese, and their children Connor, Madeline, and Dalton; Adam Stockenberg, his wife Beth, and their children Caden, Lucas, and Noah; and Lisa Mendlowicz, her husband Itzik and their two children Danielle and Jordan. She is also survived by her siblings: Peter Lendrum, Shelley Kelley, and Jackie Gilday.
Judy was raised and educated in Watertown, having graduated from Watertown High School in 1958. She studied dance at Dee’s Dance Studio and was a gifted ballerina. She even competed for a spot on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand when the show came through Syracuse. Judy’s early passion for dance followed her throughout her life, and she danced every morning as a way to start her day.
Judy was also a tireless friend with a passion for serving elderly in need. During her time with Family Services in Worcester she provided aid and comfort to countless “clients,” many of whom became friends. On her own time, it was not at all uncommon to find her delivering a holiday meal, or visiting with someone who seemed to need a little extra help.
Even while battling cancer herself, Judy sought to give back by volunteering to help support others also engaged in the fight.
It is also important to note that Judy was a maker of a mean macaroni salad, and a lover of wine with ice. Both things caused some friends and family consternation over the years, but our families will continue these traditions with great joy.
Most of all, Judy was a constant presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was always good for a strong opinion, and would usually deliver one whether you wanted it or not. But her advice was always good, and her unconditional love and support will be missed most deeply. One thing was never in question: Mom/Grandma/Mum always had your back, and made sure that you knew that you were loved.
We will miss our beloved Judy terribly, and find solace only in the fact that she is now at peace, dancing in heaven and acting as our own guardian angel.
