STERLING – Judith “Judy” A. (Crosby) Mather, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, June 23, 2023. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Dr. Walter Crosby and Mildred (Brick) Crosby and had lived in Sterling for most of her life.
She leaves her daughters, Bethanne Groccia and her husband, Frank of Worcester, Suzanne Hart and her husband, Robert of Shirley, and Dianne Mather of Worcester; her siblings, brother Walter Crosby Jr. and his wife, Ethel of Shelton CT, brother Stephen Crosby and his wife, Sandra (deceased 2003) of Broad Brook CT, sister Janet Laganiere and her husband, Michel of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Québec, Canada; her grandchildren, Angela, Michael, Jocelyn, Kathryn, Stephanie and Ashley; her great-grandchildren, Sage, Jonas and Astra; and nieces and nephews Bobby, Lynda, Ben, Becky, Meredith, Melissa, Jonathan, Etienne, Simon, Olivier, Antoine. Judy’s beloved husband of 56 years, Nelson Mather predeceased her.
Judy graduated from Wachusett High School and as an RN from Worcester Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. Judy “Nursie” was the camp nurse for 4-H Camp Marshall in Spencer, the school nurse at the Butterick School in Sterling and worked as an RN at Memorial Hospital in Worcester until retirement. Judy was an active member of the First Church in Sterling and was most passionate about entertaining her family, large extended family, and friends, always making sure that everyone was comfortable, cared for and that they didn’t leave her house empty handed or hungry. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and trips to New Hampshire, Maine, and Florida.

Family and friends are invited to join the family at the First Church in Sterling for calling hours from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM on Friday, July 7, 2023, followed by a memorial service and burial at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling.
