RUTLAND - Judith (Buck) Johnson, 77, of Ridge Road, died peacefully at home under the loving care of her family and the staff at Affinity Hospice on Thursday, August 15, 2013. Born in Willimantic, CT, Judy was the daughter of George E. and Minnie (Oakes) Buck and lived most of her life in Rutland.
Judy graduated from Rutland High School and was the secretary for the building inspector in Rutland for over 10 years. Previously, she worked as a teller for Worcester County National Bank and later ran the greenhouse at Agway in Holden.
She was community minded and served on various town committees and boards including Rutland Council on Aging. She was also a den mother and treasurer of the Rutland Cub Scouts Troup #141. Judy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and for her willingness to lend a hand or help someone in need.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Harry C. Johnson, Jr.; a son, Harry C. Johnson III of Providence; three daughters, Tina M. Bertholet and her husband John of Holden, Betsy L. Smith and her husband Keith of Rutland, and Holly J. Lizotte and her husband David of Oakham; three sisters, Eleanor Lou Morton of Rutland, Prudence Oakes Buck of Rutland and Dorothy LaRue of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Maxwell, Violet, Emma, Samuel and Casey; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edwin Buck and a sister, Nancy Williams.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service honoring Judy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 19, at the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
