WORCESTER – Thomas J. Sweeney, Jr., 85, formerly of Rockrimmon Road, died peacefully on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Sophie (Caola) Sweeney; three sons, Thomas J. Sweeney III and his wife Eileen of Lakeland, Florida, Michael J. Sweeney and his wife Patty of Paxton and John F. Sweeney of New Braintree; two daughters, Paula M. Kowszik and her husband Tony of Millbury and Linda M. Taylor and her husband James of Rutland; nine grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. A sister, Alice Doherty, predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester the son of Thomas J. and Marion (White) Sweeney and lived here all his life. Tom graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College both in Worcester. He worked for New England Envelop Co. in Worcester for 28 years retiring as plant superintendant in 1988. He was a member of Christ the King Church in Worcester.
Tom was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran and served with the 8th Fighter Command in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He was a member of the Tatnuck American Legion Post 288 in Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6th at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7th at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 300 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606.
