Joseph A. Sweeney

January 23, 1938 — December 15, 2014

OXFORD - Joseph A. Sweeney, Jr., 76, died peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Worcester, son of the late Marion E. (Greenhalge) and Joseph A. Sweeney, Sr.



He graduated from South High School in 1956, and served several years in the US Air Force as a military policeman. Joe spent most of his working in the printing field. He began his career with the former Heffernan Press in Worcester, and then worked for many years as a sales associate for McCain Bindery Company. He then opened his own printing business, Eze Print in Northborough, which he operated for several years. His artistic talents have always been present in the cards, cartoons and drawings that he has created and shared with family and friends. An avid golfer with a single digit handicap, Joe could often be found at one of several local driving ranges providing lessons and tips to aspiring golfers. He was a talented billiards player, a voracious reader and enjoyed fishing. Joe shared of himself as a mentor and supporter to many people in recovery over the past 35 years. But, Joe’s true happiness and joy came when he was able to spend time with his children and grandchildren.



Joe leaves his three children, Joseph A. “Jay” Sweeney III and his wife, Julie of Oxford, Kathleen A. Lemoine and her husband, John of Princeton and Timothy J. Sweeney and his wife, Margaux of Plymouth; his sister, Barbara Cote of Worcester; his six grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, Abbey, Elizabeth, Allison and Grace; his dearest friend, Karen Annucci of Worcester; his former wife and friend, Janice M. Johnson of Falmouth; as well as many nieces and nephews.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joe’s family on Thursday, December 18, from 4-7 p.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A service honoring and celebrating his life will be held on Friday, December 19, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
