Joseph 'Joe' R. Par

April 29, 1944 — November 25, 2012

WEST BOYLSTON - Joseph “Joe” R. Paré, 68, passed away at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester on Sunday, November 25, 2012 after a valiant struggle with biliary cancer.

He is survived by his son, Drew Paré Sansoucy of Worcester; his sister, Denise Paré Muirhead and her husband Bruce Muirhead of Danville, CA.; Drew’s mother, Karyn Sansoucy of Worcester; many cousins, including John and Karen Paré of West Boylston; close friends, Donna Hayes of Saco, ME, and Steve and Diega Therrien of Princeton; and numerous friends, associates, neighbors, and acquaintances established over the 40 year span of residing in West Boylston.

Joe was born in Fitchburg, the son of Joseph G. and Estelle (Duval) Paré. He attended St Bernard’s High School, Fitchburg State College and completed his master’s degree at WPI. He was a Professor of Mathematics at Becker College for 38 years and was instrumental in establishing the teacher’s union there. He served as union president for many years as he fought to preserve and maintain the dignity of the teaching profession.
He was highly respected by his students and colleagues as being a fair, concerned and consummate professional educator.

He had more than a passing interest in wine, sports, politics, cooking, and storytelling. His ability to recall details of events, conversations, book passages, old TV shows, and rock-n-roll was uncanny. At one time he owned and operated the ‘Wine Cellar’ where he educated many people and palates to the benefits of a good bottle of wine, a hunk of cheese and a loaf of bread.

Joe’s love of nature, animals, and the outdoors was enhanced by the many camping, hiking, bicycle and national park trips that he shared with his son Drew. They were indeed special memories that he held and was eager to share with those who inquired.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 484 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
