GLOUCESTER / WORCESTER - Joseph "Joey" Kangisser, born February 8th 1939, a loving and adoring son to Sara and George Kangisser, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 28th 2023 after a very long and arduous battle with Alzheimer’s. Joey was born in Worcester MA. He later became a resident of Gloucester MA., and Naples Florida. He is survived by the love of his life Louise, married 62 years.
Joey was a deeply loving father to Deborah K. Mead and husband, Patrick, and Rachel K. Sher and husband, Philip. He is survived by his adoring grandchildren Jenny Bea Levine and husband Eugene McGowan, Henry F. K. Sher, Hannah K. Mead and husband Dylan Guy, Laura K. Mead and George K. Mead. Joey also leaves behind brother-in-law Bob Frem and wife, Liz. He is predeceased by his sister Martha Rosenblatt and husband, Mel. He is also predeceased by his brother in-law Milton Frem and surviving wife, Arlene. Joe also leaves behind loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Joey graduated from Worcester Academy where he excelled in tennis and basketball. He went on to play basketball at the University of Vermont where he graduated in 1961. He then became president of Eastern Oil Co. working closely with his loving father George. He then pivoted careers and became V.P. of Frem Corp. and then founded JoKay Inc. specializing in houseware products.
Joey truly loved life. He was a man who cherished and loved his family deeply. He could light up a room with a twinkle in his eye, a smile to let you know he cared about you and a joke to brighten your day. His love and appreciation for a beautiful sunset, a symphony, food, dance, time spent on Good Harbor Beach and of course the Celtics, will live on in all of those who loved and adored him. He also became an avid golfer. Although he would have liked a lower score, the best part of the game was joking with his buddies. Joey was a poet and a soulful man who will be remembered for his compassion, kindness, loyalty and indelible sense of humor.
