Joseph S. Gulachenski

December 26, 1922 — September 17, 2012

HOLDEN – Joseph S. Gulachenski, 89, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Briarwood Circle, West Boylston after an illness. He was born in Jaslo, Poland, the son of Michael and Julia Gulachenski and lived in Holden for over 50 years before moving to Briarwood Circle in 2009.

He leaves his wife of 38 years, Patricia D. Megnin Gulachenski; a son, Joseph A. Gulachenski and his wife Kim Tran of Trabuco Canyon, CA; two daughters, Andrea M. Goodrich of Acton and Felicia D. Gulachenski and her husband John Cardillo of Hazlet, NJ; four grandchildren, Todd M. Goodrich, Shane M. Goodrich, Julia C. Cardillo and Justin K. Gulachenski; a great-granddaughter, Jade K. Ansell; several nephews and nieces; four step-children, Charles, James, Gerald and Patricia; and several step-grandchildren. His first wife of 16 years, Genevieve Gulachenski passed away in 1965 and a brother, Edward M. Gulachenski, predeceased him.

Joseph graduated from Barnstable High School and Northeastern University in Boston. He was an electrical engineer for Massachusetts Electric Company for 36 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a long time usher at the eight o’clock Mass. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with Bishop O’Reilly Assembly Knights of Columbus Alhambra 88 Council in Worcester. He also was a member of the I.E.E.E Inc., the Wally Byan Caravan Club International and the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, woodworking, but most of all loved to travel across the country in his Air Stream trailer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s name to The Welcome Project, 530 Mystic Ave., Room 111, Somerville, MA 02145. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
