BARRE / DOUGLAS – Joseph A. Furno, 46, of Old Petersham Road, Barre, died suddenly on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in Henry Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 17 years, Pamela J. (Knowles) Furno; a son, Steven K. Furno of Barre; 4 brothers, Carl Furno of Burnham, ME, Michael Furno of Vershire, VT, and David and John Furno both of Douglas; 4 sisters, Robin Butler and Tina Soucier both of Douglas, Cindy Kibbe of RI, and Tammy Murray of Brookfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Northbridge, the son of Anthony and Lucille (Chaput) Furno and lived in Douglas most of his life before moving to Barre in 1999.
Joseph owned and operated Furno & Sons Trucking Company in Barre for five years. He previously was a diesel mechanic for several area companies. He was an avid camper, NASCAR racing enthusiast, and loved spending time with his son. He was an active member of the First Church of Templeton and was a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Douglas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 on Sunday, August 3rd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Joseph will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 4th, in the funeral home followed by burial in Glen Valley Cemetery, Valley Road, Barre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of Templeton, P.O. Box 356, Templeton, MA 01468.
